Leslie Lynn Smith joined TechTown in 2010 to be on the ground floor of economic development in Detroit – the city she loves and where she was born.
She came to the nonprofit accelerator and incubator from the Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC), where she served as director of business acceleration, overseeing the state’s$300 million investment portfolio. She also managed its innovation ecosystem known as SmartZones, which feature rich partnerships and programming between research universities, accelerators and the private sector.
Before joining the MEDC, Smith was CFO of Ann Arbor-based real estate firm McKinley Inc., and director of real estate for Trammell Crow Co. in Auburn Hills.
Smith serves on the board of directors and executive committee for Midtown Detroit, Inc.; board of directors and chair of BANSEM; board of directors for Project Scientist, Collision Works and Xconomists in Detroit; management committee for Invest Detroit’s First Step Fund; strategic planning committee for Wayne State University; and advisory board for Belle Capital LP and the Michigan Black Chamber of Commerce’s William F. Pickard Enterprise Entrepreneurship Institute.
