Not for Profit Board Roles - Ms Murphy serves on the boards of several non-profits within her community, including St John Providence Health System, United Way for Southeastern Michigan, Covenant House Michigan, Children’s Leadership Council, and the Early Childhood Investment Corporation.
Ms. Murphy is a certified public accountant, former chair of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and former Group Managing Partner a major independent registered public accounting firm, Plante & Moran, where she had operating experience for all of the client service lines of the firm, including audit, tax and all the consulting lines of firm. Ms. Murphy currently serves as President and CEO of Murphy Consulting, Inc., a consulting firm providing services to businesses and professional firms in the areas of corporate governance, enterprise risk management, post-merger integration activities, and programs dedicated to the advancement of women.
She remains active in the CPA profession by serving on the governing council of the AICPA and is the recipient of numerous awards. In 2012, Ms. Murphy was honored by the AICPA with the Gold Medal for Distinguished Service, the highest honor for an individual in the profession. Ms. Murphy also serves as a member of the NACD’s Advisory Council on Risk Oversight.
Ms. Murphy graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and received Honorary Doctorates from Walsh College and Cleary University. She is a National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Board Leadership Fellow.
