Mary Brevard draws on an extensive corporate career to make connections, provide actionable insights and focus executives and entrepreneurs on new growth opportunities. Having helped reinvent automotive supplier BorgWarner Inc. as a top performing global technology leader, she now attacks the issues of corporate board effectiveness and entrepreneurial success. She serves as Executive Director of the Inforum BoardAccess™ Initiative at Inforum Center for Leadership; is an angel investor supporting entrepreneurs in high-growth businesses; an executive mentor/coach focused on improving board diversity; and a trustee of the Detroit Historical Society and the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings.
As the designer of the innovative Inforum BoardAccess Initiative in 2010, and through her work in the entrepreneurial world, Ms. Brevard pushes for different thinking, helping individuals discover and reinvent themselves around new opportunities. She has engaged over 3,000 business leaders and individuals to influence actions to improve board diversity and has helped women position themselves for corporate board service. She enriches vetting and decision making for start-up companies by educating and recruiting a boarder base of angel investors for Michigan ventures. She regularly manages and speaks at corporate board and entrepreneurial events.
During her twelve years with global automotive supplier BorgWarner Inc., Ms. Brevard served as Vice President of Investor Relations and Corporate Communications and as an advisor to management and directors in building the company’s reputation for credibility and excellence in corporate governance and investor relations. She served on the company’s managing Strategy Board and as executive champion for a number of key initiatives including sustainability, employee engagement and global marketing/brand building, helping drive the company’s top-quartile industry performance. As an officer of the corporation, a principal member of the Disclosure and Compliance teams and an officer of the BorgWarner Foundation, she actively interfaced with the company’s Board of Directors and Audit Committee, and was an advisor on corporate governance issues, including compensation, to deliver positive outcomes.
Prior to joining BorgWarner Inc., Ms. Brevard developed her financial, strategic and communication expertise in a wide variety of industries and with companies at various stages of expansion, globalization or change. These companies included Sensient Technology, Gehl Company, American Appraisal and Johnson Controls. In each case, she advised management and built strategic marketing, investor relations and corporate communication functions from the ground up to achieve business objectives.
Ms. Brevard co-chaired the Women of Boards initiative of the international We Own It Collaboration; serves on the Executive Committee and advises the board of the InterOrganizational Network (ION) promoting board diversity; is active in the Massachusetts Oyster Project and Columbia River Gorge (OR) preservation; heads the development committee for the Chambers Island Nature Preserve (WI); graduated from Marquette University; and recently took up scuba diving. She lives in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
